aA goes Uzbekistan
We received an invitation by the Goethe Institute to moderate together with Transsolar a workshop on architecture and sustainability in Tashkent.
Does anyone have some interesting references of buildings or sites to visit in Uzbekistan?

TWEETx Installation at TEDxHamburg

In collaboration with Kollison and Martin Professional (both Aarhus, Denmark) we installed this interactive LED scrren at the TEDx conference in Hamburg.

At any technology orientated conference such as TED there is an invisible Twitter-scape broadcasting the event live to the WWW. The density of this virtual landscape is usually hidden to people not using Twitter.

TWEETx is an interactive wall that reacts on the tweets that were written in the lecture hall and about the TED conference and displays it visual to the audience.

Thanks to Rune from Kollision for putting together this great movie.

Imaginary Space is an experiment into the interpretation of architectural tectonics into body movement.

The project was realized for the ArchMoscow 2011 NEXT exhibition of anOtherArchitect.

The exhibition won the prize for the best international exhibition at ArchMoscow.

Just coming back from an exciting week at ArchMoscow exhibition. A lot of great things happened in Russia. Here is the first video of our interactive installation.

More news, pictures and videos to come soon!

“The movie is showing the interactive installation of anOtherArchitect at ArchMoscow 2011 exhibition.

A kinect sensor was used in order to detect people sitting down on three different chairs. Once a visitor sits down LED moving heads are pointing at this person. A different color is assigned to each chair. In stand-by position the moving heads are lighting small exhibition tables.

OpenSimSim - building knowledge
The internet changed many bastions of our every day life. Accessibility of information became much simpler and to most researchers it is available at a fingertip wherever they have access to the world wide web. Our vertical knowledge cathedrals turned into a series of large horizontal bazaars. The talk will cover some of the downsides of the movement but mainly concentrate on the new possibilities and changed framework for researchers showing also examples of student works of the Dessau Institute of Architecture (DIA Dessau).OpenSimSim is one of several examples covered in order to discuss emerging ways of sharing information and conducting research with the help of crowd sourcing and open source ideologies.Daniel Dendra will also talk about his own experience with projects such as the cloudscap.es award and introduce a new collaborative research program called Future City Lab (ftr.ct.lb).The principles of Open innovation and Open Source naturally will lead into discussing the importance of copy right and intellectual properties in architecture and urban design.
14th of April 2011 at Campo Grande, 376 - 1749 - 024 Lisboa - Agostinho da Silva Auditorium / ULHT

aA : Daniel Dendra is talking at the FUTURE ENVELOPE 5 Conference at the TU DELFT about “Technology Transfer” on the 19th of May 2011.
“All around us, new technologies and materials emerge at an unknown rate. However, where other disciplines are advancing, it seems that the building industry is reluctant to pick up new trends. Since we want to stay on top we need to find ways to integrate new developments into the unique and project oriented building discipline.
The conference aims at identifying those areas in which the façade world can learn from other disciplines concerned with highly technical products. What are their design strategies and building processes? Are these concepts transferable to an architectural market?
At the occasion of the filth edition of the annual conference The Future Envelope, speakers from disciplines such as industrial design, aerospace design, material technology, façade design and architecture will share their experience and vision about the future building envelope.”

3 MONTHS OF DIGITAL CLOUDSCAP.ES (almost all the world is green now)Thanks to all of you for submitting so many amazing ideas and to vote so much for your favorite projects. The period where people can submit or vote ended. We are very happy with the award and it became very successful. Just a few numbers:
we had 46 submission
we had around a quarter of a million clicks on the award website

most people came from Germany, US, Spain, Poland, Italy, Canada, Russia, UK, Portugal, France (in this order)
an architecture school in Florida paid the $ 50 fee for all students who wanted to participate (I think it is worth to mention)
in the last month projects needed more than 1.100 voted in order to make it into the final round
